Welcome!

Good morning, peeps.

This morning, I found out that one of my co-workers went to J. Crew last night, where they "only" spent about $550. Digest that. Now keep reading.

Now, I love J. Crew. Love them. I base a lot of my looks off their lovely displays and admittedly, I sometimes fantasize about Chuckles and Tot (the Princesses of the Thrifty Kingdom) decked out in head-to-toe seersucker awesomeness. Then I remember that the last time I inspected a J. Crew Kids tag and the subsequent brush with an aneurysm.

My co-worker bought four sweaters and a necklace, the latter of which qualified for a discount. Frankly, if I spend $550 on four sweaters and a "discounted" necklace, those sweaters had best be woven by the Fates using gold, unicorn hairs and rays of sunshine. Don't even get me started on the "discounted" necklace.

She wore one of the sweaters today. It is virtually identical to the cardigan from Gap that I picked up at Goodwill about a month ago.

For $3.49. Plus tax.

Here's the thing, folks.YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND A FORTUNE TO LOOK LIKE YOU SPENT A FORTUNE. YOU JUST HAVE TO WORK A LITTLE HARDER AT IT. I'm sorry for the shouty capitals, but to get through to the conspicuous consumers out there, sometimes, you just have to yell.

If you scour the interwebs for any length of time (Pinterest being my absolute favorite site for this) you will see women (and men) pinning all sorts of fun refashions and upcycles. They pin links about being green, being content with less, and annoying little sayings that capture their true love of recycling and DIY.

And then they spend $550 on sweaters at J. Crew.

I started this blog because I noticed that of the many blogs about thrifting, upcycling, refashioning, etc. there were very few (if any) that detailed how to be thrifty but still look fantastic. Because frankly, I believe in recycling, revamping and reusing. I believe in being content with less.

So, in an attempt to show you that it can be done, I will share pictures (and outfits) created from ONLY Goodwill, Salvation Army or other thrifty finds. Which may or may not include the $5.50 skirts I picked up at Target the other day.

Being fashionable doesn't have to cost half your mortgage for a few sweaters. Particularly when you can pick up the same or better for less than your grande Salted Caramel Mocha (I can't talk about those...I have a problem).
